transcultural learning

customized training COURSES and WORKSHOPS

In our day to day and professional life, we encounter people with different values, backgrounds and experiences. We tend to categorise our environment and to search for universal solutions for unique challenging transcultural encounters. Without the awareness of one’s own biases, this can lead to misunderstandings and conflict. Our transcultural training supports individuals to deepen their reflections on:

  • their own (cultural) identity, values and privileges

  • the concept of culture and its use on meta level

  • the “own” and the “foreign” as constructions and learning to deconstruct them

  • the mechanism of ethnocentrism

  • the development of stereotypes and prejudices

  • different positions of power

  • different forms of communication in diverse settings

Why transcultural and not intercultural learning?

Interculturality refers to the exchange of two or more cultural entities with clear boundaries. However, cultural systems are not static; they are fluid, situational constructs that are constantly changing. One person therefore has not one “national culture” but is fluent in different cultures (e.g. family culture, work culture, religion etc.) that influence each other. We prefer the concept of transcultural learning because it refers to the permeable space between what we think of as distinct cultures.

Our training courses are aimed at:

  • Working professionals in civil society organizations, foundations or companies:

People who work in transcultural and international working environments and want to learn more about their own communication in order to prevent conflict

  • Volunteers, fellows, groups of youth exchange:

  • Teachers and trainee teachers:

Teachers that are interested in reflecting on their own identity and biases in order to lay the foundation for their students' critical thinking.

  • Curious minds:

Anybody who is curious to explore the field of culture, transcultural encounters and communication
